Cricket Club in York

Ovington Cricket Club was founded in 1928 and pride ourselves on providing cricketing opportunities for everyone. Whether it be juniors, with participants aged as low as 4, to those in retirement who play senior cricket. The club have something for everyone with an interest in Cricket.

The Club have been based on the Little Knavesmire, York, for many years and have had success at all levels in recent years. Our First Team now plays in the York & District Senior League and pulled off a notable league and cup double in 2022. We now have at total of three senior sides that play on a Saturday at a wide-range of standards.

Our Juniors continue to go from strength to strength. With over 90 junior members, teams from U9’s (three sides at this age-group) to Under 15’s, with now a Girls U11 side, the club continues to grow. Some teams in the area turn people away and it is a common question we get. Ovington prefer not to do this – so feel free to come down, give us a try, and see if Cricket is for you.

How to get involved with our cricket club?

From November – late March, the club runs Indoor Training. This has been traditionally at the Millthorpe School Sports Hall. Each age-group has it’s own time slot. For more information – drop us a direct message on our Facebook Page or via our Get In Touch page. Alternatively, look out for posts from our team on the website or other social media pages.

In the warmer months, our training is outdoor. Different age-groups have different nights in which they train, and it’s advised to message us on the details above to find out exactly what evening to bring your child. The outdoor “nets” for adult players can also change evenings from week to week depending on ground availability. Please get in touch for more details. We are a friendly, inclusive club, with many opportunities for a wide range of abilities to play Cricket. We run three Saturday teams, so getting together 33 players can sometimes be a challenge!

Is playing cricket expensive?

Ovington CC do not have an annual subscription/membership for Senior/Adult Cricket. We operate a “pay as you play” model and our fees are reasonable, especially compared to other clubs where an up-front fee is required alongside regular match fees.

For the Juniors, we do have an annual membership option. It is extremely well-priced, as it provides access to all outdoor training, our fully qualified coaching team and the possibility of playing in matches. For Indoor Training, there is usually a small fee for each session to cover the cost of venue hire. Participating in Cricket is tremendous value.

Do Ovington have an All-Stars Cricket programme in York?

We have run an All-Stars cricket programme in the past. It’s ideal for those new to Cricket. Sells out every year pretty much and is brilliantly priced. It is aimed at ages 5-8 years old and takes place on a specific day over the course of the spring/summer.

As of 14th February, the All Stars Cricket Programme is currently available to book for those who have registered an early interest. Keep a keen eye on the ECB Website!

How else can I support Ovington Cricket Club?

Not everyone can or wants to play Cricket. However, the club is volunteer run and led – and there is a range of volunteering opportunities that we have available. Easy things to get involved with include Scoring or helping with coaching. Get in touch on the details above via Facebook Page or this website for more information. All of our coaches are trained and suitably vetted.

Sponsorship is another vehicle in which you/a business can help provide much needed funds for Ovington Cricket Club. It is not simply a donation – we will actively support your business over different verticals. We have signage on the pavilion, ground, website, social media all available and have a huge reach both in the South Bank community and the wider York region.
