Maurice Bell

The Club are sad to report that Ovington CC’s President, Maurice Bell, has died at the age of 91.

Club President Maurice Bell, pictured here in 2016, has died at the age of 91

Maurice was a stalwart of the club, having been a part of our organisation for around seventy years. He has held most key positions at Ovington CC, having been our Head Groundsman for many years, only stepping down from the role as late as 2014 at the age of 84. He still had an area of the pavilion where his stuff was kept even to this day. Aside from his cricket commitments, Maurice was an instructor and examiner in lifesaving across the city and was also a “Freeman of the City of York”. He is survived by his wife, Patricia.

The Club wishes to send it’s condolences to the Bell family at this time. Maurice will certainly be missed by all who knew him at Ovington CC.

Thank you for messages that we’ve received about Maurice, as well as the tributes the past weekend.

Maurice’s Funeral Service is to be held Tuesday 7th September, 11am at York Crematorium. Family Flowers Only and Donations in lieu if desired to the York Rescue Boat
