The Junior Committee are happy to announce that dates for our Under 9’s Training have been settled and will begin in April, with our Development group starting on Monday 5th April and our Championship group on Friday 9th April, all taking place on the Little Knavesmire.
Details of our older age groups will be posted in due course.
Similar to last year – we’re roughly splitting the pool of players among two groups, with a different WhatsApp group and training day session for each.
Friday’s 17:45 – 19:00 is the designated day for the “Championship” Group. This is aimed at mostly those who have already experienced an Under 9’s match and/or are in Years 3 or 4 (but girls also Y5). First session is Friday 9th April.
Monday’s 17:45 – 19:00 is for the “Development” Group. This is aimed at those in Years 1 or 2 and/or those who haven’t yet played a match and are building up to maybe doing that this year. First session is Monday 5th April (Easter Monday).
Some players may end up swapping between the groups during the year or even overlapping both. This is absolutely fine. The priority is outdoor fun and enjoyment of cricket.
We’re entering three teams into local Under 9’s leagues – two teams in the Championship League and one team in the Development League. More info on matches in months to come, but all are 6-a-side, with a soft ball, and structured to allow equal participation from all.
New players to Under 9’s training are very much welcome! Details of the membership fees for this season are pending at this time and we’re more than happy for your children to attend a couple of sessions before joining or re-joining the club. Feel free to come along on the day, but if you have any questions, drop us an e-mail at email@example.com or message us through the website/Facebook icon.
We will also have details of our new club kit and branded equipment, coming within the next couple of weeks.
Important ECB Guidance re: COVID
For the first week of training, ECB guidance is for no spectators (with changes to allow them from the 12th April). Although we do benefit from the significant open space on the Little Knavesmire, we request that parents do not all gather together in one spot. We also request that we have everyone’s contact information and adhere to sign in/out procedures. Thank you in advance.
Equipment and health guidance
If children have their own bat and ball, please bring, but if not, we have plenty of spares. Please bring your own water bottles too. You can bring your own sanitiser but we’ll have some spare.
Please stay away if you/your children have either a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste. We ask children and parents to avoid going into the pavilion, unless for an emergency toilet visit.
Volunteer for Ovington CC
We’ve got a pool of coaches with Adrian, Col, Jim, Neil, James, Alex and Andrew. Any of us could be running sessions/ mini-groups within sessions or in charge of match days. We’re always looking for more helpers, be that for coaching or other roles, so please ask if you’d like to be involved.
We’re really looking forward to seeing lots of you on Monday 5th / Friday 9th April for the first training of the year! If you miss the first one, come along to the next one!
Please email if you have any questions, including potential new starters at firstname.lastname@example.org, or message us through the Website or Facebook.
