The U15s got off to a winning start in their opening game of the season, smashing 168-3 against Cilfton Alliance B.
Ovington won the toss and elected to bat, with skipper Montgomery Grenyer and Noah Morgan opening for the home side. The two combined to rack up a partnership of 80 runs, before Morgan was bowled on 26, having played some wonderful shots during his innings (that hook shot!). The wicket of Zach Blower followed shortly after, before Harrison Woodall joined Grenyer in the middle, and the two wasted no time in adding to Ovington’s total. Grenyer continued to lead from the front with some wonderful leg side shots, ending his innings with a boundary before retiring on 53 (6 x 4s). In a devastating display of power-hitting, Woodall smashed 47 runs from just 25 balls (7 x 4s) before being run out on the last ball of the innings. Luke Smith finished not out.
In reply, Clifton Alliance were presented with limited scoring opportunities in the early stages of their innings, following some tight bowling by Grenyer and Zach Blower. The visitors began to accumulate runs as L Ruane (50) and K Parmar (36) adjusted to the Ovington attack, and capitalised on a number of errors in the field by Ovington. The only wicket fell to debutante Harry Wilson (1-10), who has clearly picked up some bowling tips from big brother Jack from Ovington’s senior ranks. Clifton ended their innings with a very respectable 111-1 from 20 overs.
A huge shout goes out to all those who made their debut for the U15s, especially Lucas Moore who did a FANTASTIC job behind the stumps!
Next up for the U15s is an away game versus Sheriff Hutton Bridge on Monday 27th July.
