Match report: Ovington U9 development team complete well-deserved victory over Stamford Bridge

Report by Adrian Stipetic

Yesterday evening saw the first match for the U9 development team and what a brilliant start to the season! Captain Immy lost the toss, with the opposition putting us in to bat, but she confidently volunteered to open with Lubo and they got us off to an excellent start. Both batted very carefully, neither got out, and after their four overs, we had reached 18. In came Jack G and Thomas, who both played some lovely shots and were particularly alert to taking quick singles. The scoreboard ticked on. The final pair of Edward and Jack C likewise ticked us along nicely. Jack played a memorable powerful pull shot for four, on the way to helping Ovington U9B to an excellent total of 40.

If we were good with the bat, we were even better with the ball! Thomas bowled the first over and the Stamford Bridge openers struggled to cope with his pace, as he conceded just one run. Likewise Edward bowled a very tidy over, then Jack G bowled a maiden and Ovington were well on top. Immy’s over was very accurate and included a wicket when Jack G took a lovely catch. Jack G then came on to bowl and took two wickets for himself! Very well bowled Jack! After an over of bamboozling spin from Lubo, we reached the halfway point of the Stamford Bridge innings and they were on -5! The fine bowling and fielding continued and despite a late flurry, Stamford Bridge could only score 22 and Ovington won by an impressive 18 runs!

All six players played superbly. They all scored runs, ran between the wickets well, bowled straight and fielded enthusiastically. They have improved so much and this win is a good reward for excellent practice. Well played all!
