Under 13s get first win as Firsts host Drax

The rain was the winner for the most part during the weekday games as disruption hit the majority of games at both junior and senior level, which meant not much Cricket was played. There was some success on Sunday morning though for an Ovo side. This weekend sees the Seniors continue their season, and the Third Team have done well to get a full side out! All the details below.

The U13s got their season off to a winning start, after beating Bolton Percy by 8 wickets at Little Knavesmire.

A series of solid performances from the Ovington bowlers saw the visitors restricted to 76-4 from their 20 overs. The wickets were evenly spread across the bowling attack, with Oliver Garner-Steel posting figures of 4-1-5-1. Noah Morgan impressed behind the stumps, taking a catch and stumping Bolton Percy’s danger man John Megone (26).

Despite losing an early wicket, Ovington made steady progress with the bat. Continuing his fine form with the seniors 3rd team on Saturday, Noah Morgan hit a very well worked 31 (retired out), combining with Joe Fowke (18no) to form an excellent partnership of 64. Oliver Garner-Steel added a quick-fire 7 before being bowled. Joe Fowke and Ruben Pollack combined to see Ovington over the line.

We’d like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the Juniors and Seniors.

On to this weekend and the First Team have their first home match of the season, they host Drax II. The visitors are yet to have a game, having had a free week and a rained off so far this campaign. The last time the two sides met saw a one-sided encounter, with Joe Whale scoring 152 not out in a 234 run victory. The team is as follows, with no mainstays Pete Kelly and Neil Metcalfe the notable absentees. James Eckersley, who scored a century last weekend, moves up.

The Second Team travel to Stockton & Hopgrove to face a team that was dominant in Division II last season. The hosts have won their only fully completed game this campaign – and come up with an Ovington side that are missing key names. The return of Harry Buckley is a welcome relief, as are new signings Mylife Sunuwar and Gagan Gaha. Moving up in teams is Ranjan Bhattacharya, whose 5-22 caught the eye for the Third Team last week and will be hoping to continue his good form.

The Third Team host Thorpe Willoughby II at Millthorpe School. As of the moment, the team have 11, having at one stage, a full quota of spin bowlers and no other bowling options. Noah Morgan retains his place in the side, with J.Wilson (not named) a likely addition to replace U.Nsure… Joe Warn returns from his studies, with Gabriel Uttley making his Ovo debut, having not played for a few years, last turning out for Yapham. Jacob Lamb drops down after his two wickets last week for the Seconds to bolster the bowling options.

Lots of Cricket going on through the week – keep your eyes peeled on the Play Cricket for all the details!
