Join your local cricket team in 2019!

Perhaps you haven’t played cricket for a while, or have just moved to the York area and looking for your local cricket team? Do you have kids that may be interested in playing Cricket and want to get them involved? Then Ovington Cricket Club could be the place for you!

About Us

Ovington Cricket Club are based in South Bank, York and have been playing on the Little Knavesmire since 1928. As other clubs have left the area, Ovington CC have continued to grow and now we have four senior sides and junior teams ranging from Under 9’s to Under 15’s, with approaching 100 young players in total. Our Senior Teams play in the York & District Senior League and the York Vale Cricket League, with a team on Wednesday playing in the Foss Evening League. We are an ECB Clubmark Acredited organisation, which shows our club is “sustainable, well-organised and provides the right environment for its members”

With our flourishing junior section, our senior sides are regularly competitive in all competitions and having young players representing at area, North Yorkshire and Yorkshire levels, we really are a club looking to progress in 2019.

Cricket for all

Ovington CC’s membership incorporates a vast array of different ages, ethnic and faith groups,  providing cricket for all. We pride ourselves on providing a low-cost way for people of all ages to play cricket. Unlike some other clubs, Ovington CC do not charge annual subs for our senior players, just a fee on the day of the game. For our Junior members, they pay a modest (compared to other clubs around the York area) annual subscription. For that, they get all their matches, some great coaching, net sessions and an opportunity to meet new friends. Students who are in York at the University of York or St.Johns College, who are around just for the early part of the season are more than welcome to join us too.

There is a real sense of camaraderie at Ovington CC throughout the club. Our senior sides meet up after matches at our sponsor pub The Knavesmire, where food is often provided and have a drink with the opposition.

Support in the community

Ovington Cricket Club receive some great support from local York businesses in the community – with our sponsors coming from a wide-range of different organisations and businesses. This has helped to develop the cricket club facilities and grow the club. A full list can be seen on the menu on the right hand side. If you’re interested in sponsoring us yourself or as your business, then please get in touch! We have a range of options for you.

Yearly highlights

We have several highlights throughout the year, one of which is the annual Funday event, last year sponsored by Simon Baynes. It consists of a six-a-side tournament with a BBQ, Bar, Raffle, Tombola and lots more. It is a fun occasion for all the family and generally takes place in the summer, just before the school holidays. On Friday nights last season there was a choice of Yoga for those in attendance who may have been parents of children attending or simply wanted to do something different. 2018 also saw our Senior Club Chairman Alan Fletcher be awarded two different awards in recognition of his service to local cricket. He was inaugurated into the Vale League Hall of Fame and won the “Sporting Hero” in the York Press Community Pride Awards.

The annual Funday is one of the highlights of the Ovington Cricket Club calendar.
