It is one of the most exciting weekend’s of the season for Ovington CC as we have our Annual Funday event – sponsored by Simon Baynes – this Sunday 8th July. There is also three Senior Teams in action.
The Annual Funday event is one of the key dates in the Ovo calendar. It is where the whole club comes together in our six-a-side event which features both juniors, seniors, parents and other family, with a raffle, BBQ, Bar, tuck shop and more to keep everyone entertained throughout. The key details for this year are:
- Date: Sunday 8th July
- Location: The Little Knavesmire, York
- Player Registration: 11:00am – 11:30am
- Player Registration Cost: £1 for each player
- Play commences: As soon as teams are picked.
- Also includes: BBQ, Bar, Tuck shop, Raffle, Tombola and more
They’ll be two groups of teams for six-a-side matches with about eight teams in total, with teams picked evenly with a mixture of juniors, seniors and non-cricketers alike to get a good balance. A soft incrediball is used in matches, with relaxed rules in general. On average the cricket finishes at about 5pm.
If anyone wishes to donate a raffle and/or a tombola prize, it would be very much welcome.

We hope you will be able to join us this year in what promises to be a great day of Cricket, food and fun.
This weekend also sees our Senior and Junior sides in action. Saturday sees our First Team travel to Heworth IV’s, who earlier in the season were beaten by ten wickets. The Senior League gave special dispensation to teams to alter playing times to schedule around the Football. A decision that made Club Chairman, Alan Fletcher, especially annoyed. I don’t know what the arrangement (if any) has been decided with Heworth, but we’re hoping to see an England and Ovington win.
Special thanks to all our Sponsors, who are helping the club continue to grow it’s Junior and Senior sections in 2018.
Where they won’t be any special dispensation for Football fans is at The Little Knavesmire where the game between Ovington II and Thixendale will take place at the normal time and under the conventional rules. No agreement could be arranged so as I understand, the match will start at 13:30 as usual. Thixendale, for all their batting aside, have yet to hit top-stride in Division One and find themselves below Ovington, 24 points behind. It’s an important game for both.
On Sunday, well away from the Football but unfortunately clashing with the Funday, is Ovington’s Thirds clash with Dunnington. A clash was almost inevitable given the Third Team having the vast majority of their Sunday league fixtures in July (3/5). Sunday cricket is rubbish.
We hope to see you at the Funday – and it looks like we’ve got the right weather for it!
PS. It’s Coming Home.
