Evening League Team Despatches Division 3 Leaders

Hemingbrough 144-5 (T Ellwood 31, G Crouch 34, J Pickles 34no; M Besford 2-27) lost to Ovington 147-5 (T Cookson 43, C Nicoll 36, J Whale 46no; G Crouch 2-13) by 5 wickets.

A strong Ovington side rose to the occasion, to defeat division 3 leaders Hemingbrough, and chalk up their second win of the season.
After a slow start, Hemingbrough began to build steadily, reaching 44 before Lee Wild (22) was caught and bowled by Benjamin Busby (1-29) in the eighth over. This seemed to unsettle the visitors, as Matthew Besford (2-27) removed their captain Tom Ellwood (31) two overs later, shortly followed by Glenn Crouch (34). Hemingrough’s J Pickles added a useful 34no, to leave the visitors on 144-5.
A powerful batting performance by Ovington, saw openers Tom Cookson (43 off 34 balls) and Pete Kelly (13) add 46 for the first wicket, before Kelly was dismissed. The runs continued to flow, as Craig Nicoll (36 off 23 balls) joined Cookson in the middle, before Cookson was caught in the field. As the Hemingbrough bowling attack struggled to impose themselves on the game, Nicoll and Joe Whale took control of the game, with a fine 46 run partnership. Glen Crouch (2-10) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, but couldn’t stop Whale as he smashed an unbeaten 46 off just 22 balls, hitting a huge maximum to secure the win for Ovington.
Next up is Stillingfleet away, on Wednesday 28 June.
