Cricket Teas crisis averted as Firsts face Melbourne

Lovely Cricket weather forecast for today as all three Senior sides are in action, two of those playing at home. With the half-term over, there’s plenty of junior games over the course of the next week too.

Many thanks to all our sponsors for the 2017 season. It is most appreciated by all at Ovington CC!

To summarise with some of the games featuring Ovington sides this past week. The U11s incrediball team fell 41 runs short of the 300 target set for them by York. The bowling attack showed early promise, with Joe Fowke taking an early wicket in his first over, following an outstanding catch by Sadiq Rizvi. The team bowled and fielded very well, but we’re unable to pick up further wickets. A fine batting partnership of 20 by Beth McNichol (13) and Sadiq Rizvi (7), was the pick of Ovington’s batting.

The Foss Evening League side were also beaten by a Thixendale side who were unrecognisable from their usual Saturday team. Thixendale smashed 188-9 from their allotted overs, with Alex Machen falling one short of his century, after a contentious no-ball earlier in the innings was called after he was easily caught off Charlie Buckley. Stefan Littlewood did his best to get that total before his bus back to Stamford Bridge departed, hitting 71 but Ovington fell 33 runs short.

Saturday’s fixtures see new leaders Ovington play Melbourne, who have won two out of five in the league this season and see themselves in 7th position. The opposition today are well-known for their Cricket Teas, as they have been awarded the Best Tea in the League in the last few season [Personally, Ovo Second/Third Team Teas are pretty close to being the best in the league…] but disaster was just about averted this morning, as the First Team realised that actually no-one was lined up to make them.

The Second Team face the trip to the picturesque Bishop Wilton to face Yapham. The Seconds have had two defeats on the spin in their last two completed matches. Both sides find themselves in mid-table but are not far off challenging the leaders, so a victory will be important. The Third Team play Thorpe Willoughby II and the Thirds will be looking to get a win on the board to help ensure their place in the “Top half” when the league splits off at the end of the season. with some of the teams in behind getting stronger each week.
