Third Team in “YO23 derby” this weekend

The season is hitting full steam now and the Third Team have a key fixture in their season with a trip to Ferry Lane to play Bishopthorpe.

Many thanks to all our sponsors for the 2017 season. It is most appreciated by all at Ovington CC!

The Thirds, who are two wins from two games in 2017 (last week the opposition conceded) face the tough looking task of the short trip to Bishopthorpe. The hosts have featured a handful of players who were capable performers in the First Division of the Vale League in days gone by and they’ve won both games this season at a fair canter. This looks to be an intriguing test for the young Third Team side.

The First Team are also on their travels and visit the idiosyncratic venue of Kelfield (2pm start) in a game that is incredibly important for Ovington’s title ambitions. After a blip on the opening day vs Burn, they got back to winning ways against Westow last week. At the same time, Kelfield beat Burn, which suggests that this seasons title race looks to be wide open, especially as Clifton Alliance have also ‘won’ their first two games as well.

Thanks to Taylors of Harrogate for their sponsorship with a Pavilion sign.

The Second Team are the sole representatives for the senior sides at home this weekend and take on Hirst Courtney on the Little Knavesmire. The visitors have lost a few important players over the winter and may be a different side compared to the one that had our first team in heaps of trouble in the HPH Cup Final. That being said, they were emphatic winners last weekend, so will be no pushovers.

As has been the case in the last couple of weeks – we will be having a meat raffle courtesy of Knavesmire Butchers. We also invite all spectators, players, opposition and others to The Knavesmire pub after the match. Thanks to the Knavesmire Pub in recent weeks for accommodating us and also to our other sponsors who have supported the club on Social Media this week – Crombie Wilkinson and MKM Building Supplies!

In Junior action, the U13’s “A” are away to Yapham on Sunday morning, with the “B’s” at home vs Dringhouses. The Under 15’s face the trip on Monday evening to Woodhouse Grange. There will also be plenty of other junior matches going on throughout the week. Finally, the Foss Evening League side play away against Melbourne on Wednesday.

Good luck to all the Ovington sides this weekend and for the week ahead!
