It’s a big weekend for Ovington sides as the First Team have two matches in two days, one a tricky fixture in order to keep their title hopes alive and then a HPH Cup Final on Sunday. The Seconds and Thirds are also in action.
Ovington would like to thank the following businesses for their support of Ovington Cricket Club.
The biggest match of the weekend takes place on Sunday, with the HPH Cup Final against Hirst Courtney at Clifton Alliance (directions here). Ovington are going for back to back cup titles and will be seen as favourites against Second Division Hirst Courtney. The Seconds beat Hirst earlier in the season but we were comprehensively beaten by them last week and this will be no pushover on a pitch that has been keeping low in recent weeks. I’m sure the team would appreciate anyone who is able to go and support the team on the day. Match due to start at 1:30pm
The First Team play Ben Johnson’s at Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick on Saturday. In the earlier fixture of this season, Ben Johnson’s sprung a surprise and managed to win the match. They can’t be underestimated although morale in the Ovington camp couldn’t be better, having won five matches on the bounce in league games. Even with a win, Ovington’s title chances can be dented by Bishopthorpe beating Burn in a match between 1st and 3rd. Burn have home advantage but Bishopthorpe seemed to have picked up after a slump in form a few weeks ago.
The Seconds play Clifton Alliance at home on the Little Knavesmire, with the Thirds playing away at Tadcaster Magnets (at the ground near Tadcaster Leisure Centre).
Best of luck to everyone playing for Ovington sides and hope to see you on Sunday.
