1401646596909-01Ovington 127-5 (S Littlewood 61; P Kelly 31; B Kitchener 2-6), lost to Retreat 144-2 (N Shefta 73no; H Shefta 35no; C Buckley 2-34) by 17 runs.

This match was a much closer affair than when these teams met earlier in the season. After a steady start, Retreat 2’s openers managed to reach 55 without loss, before Charlie Buckley (2-34) bowled H Shefta (15) in the 9th over with a “Prangdrake” special. F Hussein followed shortly after, with a long range catch taken by Stefan Littlewood on the boundary. Thereafter, Nadim Shefta (73no) delivered a solid batting display, ably assisted by Nas Shefta (35no). Retreat 2 finished on 144 from their 18 overs.

In reply, Ovington openers Stefan Littlewood (61) and Pete Kelly (31) added 90 for the first wicket, matching Retreat 2’s run rate, before Littlewood was bowled by Nadim Shefta (1-27) in the 13th over. Further wickets fell in the subsequent overs, with the pick of the bowlers being Bruce Kitchener with 2-6 in the final over. Ovington’s run chase fell short by 17 runs.

Special shout out to our two junior team members, Isaac Burland and Tom Irwin, who both delivered promising bowling and fielding performances.

Next up is big Jack Stearman’s Tang Hall Tigers, on Wednesday 13th July, at Elm Way Park, Heworth.
