Aviva Vikings 164-9 (Sankara 37, Siddath Elango 33; Josh Fletcher 3-18, Charlie Buckley 3-26, Harry Buckley 2-22) lost to Ovington 181-5 (Joe Whale 73, Pete Kelly 41; Ryan Pepper 2-26) by 17 runs.
Ovington got proceedings underway at The Outgang, with openers Joe Whale (73 off 42 balls – 5 6s and 5 4s) and Pete Kelly (41) registering 127 for the first wicket, before Whale was caught deep in the field. Kelly followed shortly after a baffling run out, before Matt Besford (26) helped push Ovington to 181 off 20 overs. The pick of the Viking’s bowlers was Ryan Pepper (2-26).
In response, Aviva Vikings quickly moved to 74 without loss, before Charlie Buckley (3-36) took the wickets of Sankara (37) and Siddath Elango (33) in the same over, helped by superb catching on the boundary by Joe Whale (casual one-handed catching) and Alistair ‘Jonty Rhodes’ Souch (who took 3 catches overall). Ryan Pepper (22) and Agawal Ankar (23) both made useful contributions to push the Vikings to 164, just 17 runs short of their target. The pick of the Ovington bowlers was Josh Fletcher (3-18), with Harry Buckley picking up 2-22.
Next up is Thixendale on Wednesday 29th June, at Little Knavesmire.
