Ovington II played Askham Bryan in the new t20 cup competition on Saturday.
Ovington II won the toss and elected to field. Mohite blitzed 53 off 9 balls and Grewer continued the hitting with a streaky 49 not out. Askham’s 156 looked a formidable target. Ovington’s response was fairly uninspiring and once Whale and Stearman departed (both 20) their innings fizzled out to 111 for 9. Both Mohite and Grewer got excellent value for their match fees, each bowling 5 overs. Mohite finishing with a tight 1-19 and Grewer with 2-22. The real highlight of the game was the magnificent tea provided by Askham.
Amazing. Probably worthy of a Michelin Star. Unanimously voted as the best tea had by a visiting Ovington side. Gazpacho soup to start, followed by a selection of cold meat sandwiches that really put the ‘ham’ in Askham Bryan. Vegetarians were not disappointed with the four cheese pizza, crescents of crisps and hot eggs. Twice baked New York style cheesecake and homemade buns finished things off with aplomb.
