Ovington Under 15’s were successful tonight against Acomb “B” in a straightforward victory.
Ovington, batting first, scored 146-5 from their 20 overs. Tim Burgess was the main contributor to this total, retiring on 53. He was can consider himself fortunate to reach his half-century as he was dropped when on 26. It was important also to note the contribution of Jacob Lamb, who scored 24 not out having come into bat in the 5th over. Jonny Evans also put pressure on the scoreboard, as he hit four boundaries in his total of 23 as part of a good overall Ovington batting performance. It is important to note however, that Acomb “B” used ten bowlers, with T.Walton’s bowling late on the pick of the Acomb figures with 2-5.
In response to the Ovington total, Acomb’s openers put on 13 for the first wicket before Thomas Irwin took the first dismissal, assisted by a good catch from Jacob Lamb. It was then Finn Baqai that did the real damage to the Acomb batting, ending up with figures of 4-4, including three wickets coming in one over. That pretty much sealed the game for Ovington, who fielded well, with four run outs coming late in the Acomb innings due to some sharp wicketkeeping by Tim Burgess. Acomb eventually finished on 32 all out; 132 runs short of the Ovington total.
In action for Ovington tomorrow are the Under 9’s “A” and the Under 11’s hard-ball. Good luck to both of those teams.
