Roy Bowes

A sad day for Ovington as club stalwart Roy Bowes passed away on Wednesday night after a short illness.

Roy was a member of Ovington Cricket Club for over 50 years. He was always a great Clubman and was Chairman for several years up until 2013. Although his first wife had burnt his kit to stop him playing several years earlier, Roy was still playing well into his 70’s. The team was never short as Roy always had his new kit in his car. If you were ever struggling for transport for junior teams, you only had to give Roy a ring and he’d be there. A dour batsman in his day, he may well be best remembered in the Vale League for his unique Umpiring style and was known by many as Roy “Trigger” Bowes.

The Club extends its deepest sympathies to Sylvia and all the family. Roy’s Funeral will take place at York Crematorium on Monday, January 18 at 12.20pm.
