Brummitt inducted into Hall of Fame

Ovington CC’s David Brummitt was inducted into the York Vale League Hall Of Fame last night at the Annual League Dinner.

The bowler, who still plies his trade in the First Division for the our First Team, has played for Ovington for around 28 years, with earlier spells in the Vale League for Ben Johnson’s and in the Senior League for York R.I. His acceptance speech given at the League Dinner included remarks about the friends for life he had made whilst playing Cricket, including those of the opposition “who played the game in the right spirit”, which received a rapturous reception from certain areas of those in attendance. Brummitt was joined in the Vale League Hall of Fame this year by Wistow/Selby player Mick Bell.

Ovington’s Craig Nicoll was awarded a framed photo from his League Record 248* effort with the bat against Stockton & Hopgrove earlier in the season. This broke the Vale League Batting Record by 31 runs.

Unfortunately, Ovington’s Charlie Buckley missed out in the York Vale League Young Player of the Season award, as that accolade went to 13 year-old Thomas Brown of Acomb, who secured 31 wickets in the Third Division. Even though he lost out, it was a breakthrough season for Buckley, who secured wickets in the top and bottom divisions, alongside picking up three Cup Medals in one season, a feat that is unlikely to be ever achieved again in the Vale League.
