Ovington’s Senior Sides had their last games of the season on Saturday and it was a farewell from Second Team captain duties for Sam Prangnell, as he embarks on a new cricketing adventure. It also saw wins for the First Team.
- Ben Johnson – 193-4
- Ovington – 197 – 8
- Ovington won by two wickets
The First Team had a scare against Ben Johnson’s but ended up securing victory with plenty of overs to spare. The visitors scored 193, with Benji Busby securing three wickets. In response, Barry Steel (44) and Stefan Littlewood (31) provided solid contributions but it was the batting of Tom Cookson (57*) that particularly helped Ovington home, with just two wickets remaining.
- Hemingbrough: 165-8
- Ovington II: 166-6
- Ovington won by four wickets
As exclusively reported by the York Evening Press, Saturday’s match was the last of Sam Prangnell’s tenure as Second Team captain before moving on to pastures new. With that in mind, charitable captain Prangnell used nine bowlers against Hemingbrough, whom secured a total of 165-8. It was then up to Prangnell to win the game with the bat and he did so, Prangnell seeing his side over the line with an unbeaten 41.
- Stamford Bridge: 125-7
- Ovington III: 93
- Stamford Bridge won by 32 runs
The Third Team, some of whom were highly critical of the playing surface when skittled out for 26 earlier in the season, but had no such complaints here and were looking down the barrel of another heavy defeat once more when 27-8. This was after a solid bowling effort, keeping Stamford Bridge to just 125. Yorkshire Under 15 Josie Osborne (3-14) and Dick Buckley (3-31) were the pick of the Ovington attack. At 27-8, things looked particularly bleak but Rob Kerry (28) and Buckley (22*) put on 46 for the last wicket and gave Ovington a sniff of victory, but the last wicket fell and the Thirds ended 32 runs short.
