It was a mixed Saturday for Ovington sides as the First Team were beaten by Kelfield, but the Thirds won in their fixture against Yapham III.
- Ovington: 188-7
- Kelfield: 189-6
- Kelfield won by four wickets
For the First Team, they secured full batting points, putting a total of 188-7 on the board against Kelfield. The main source of runs was Pete Kelly, who scored 84. No other batsman got above 30, with Craig Nicoll scoring 26 and new signing James Macquarrie hitting 21. Kelfield’s C Walker was the pick of their bowling, with three wickets. Ovington would have been confident of defending that total given their recent bowling form but even Neil Metcalfe’s 3-33 couldn’t see them through, as Kelfield won by four wickets in the penultimate over. Walker followed up his three wicket haul with 59, while Neil Atkinson scored 32.
- Yapham III: 60
- Ovington III: 61-2
- Ovington III won by eight wickets.
The Third Team did a league double over Yapham III at Bishop Wilton this afternoon, with a comprehensive eight wicket win. As so often has been the case for the Thirds this season, it was the Buckley family that came to the fore, but this time it was captain Dick and oldest son Harry who took the plaudits. Harry, opening the bowling, took 2-14 from his opening five over spell, including the wicket of Yapham top-scorer Carl Marsden (19). Those figures were eclipsed by that of his Dad’s, who took four wickets for the loss of just three runs. J.Cardy was the only Yapham batsmen to score double figures outside the opening pair, but he was eventually run-out due to a terrific individual piece of fielding from Jamie Allan. Yapham eventually succumbed to 60 all out. That total was never in any real danger for the Ovington batsmen and they secured the target in 17 overs for the loss of two wickets. Tony Pinsent top-scored with 20.
Attention now turns to Malton tomorrow, where the Second Team play Thorpe Willoughby in the Prendergast Memorial Trophy Final. Match scheduled to start at 13:30.
