It was two days to remember on Thursday and Friday for the Under 11’s hard-ball team as they won their league game and also advanced to the cup semi-finals.
The league game took place on Thursday against Heworth. Ovington batted first and ended up with 51 on the board. losing far too many wickets but redeemed themselves in no uncertain terms by a good bowling performances. Notable bowling performances came from Finn Baqai (3-7) and also Olly Steel (2-7), who got two wickets in consecutive balls. The bowling performance was enough to secure Ovington victory by 15 runs.
Then on Friday, the cup quarter-final took place on the Little Knavesmire against Pocklington, who only had eight players. Ovington batted first and it was Jack Walmsley who top scored with 24 in a rain affected innings, finishing on a total of 88. Pocklington in response started brightly, with their opening partnership putting on 36 but it was then again the bowling of Olly Steel that did the damage, he finished with figures of 5-21 including an over where he got three wickets. Pocklington’s batting collapsed and Ovington ended up winners by 37 runs.
The semi-final is scheduled to take place on the 10th July.
