The main reason for this newsletter is to let everyone know the date of the annual Open Day event, which this year will be held on Sunday 5th July and is sponsored by Waitrose. The format is unchanged from previous years. We advise getting there for 11:00am, so that registration can be completed by 11:30am, with play commencing shortly after midday. As well as providing a fun afternoon of cricket for all ages, we are also using the event to invite new sponsors to help support the club, so it is an important date in our calendar.
I’ve attached some photos from last years event to give an idea of what it has been like in previous years.
For those new members, not familiar with the format of our Open Day, it is a 6-a-side competition played between parents, juniors and seniors. We try to make the teams as even as possible and ideally will consist of two senior players, two junior players and two non-cricketers e.g. parents. The cost is 50p per player. There will also be a Barbecue, Tuck Shop, Raffle and Bar. If anyone would like to donate a raffle or tombola prize, it would be very much appreciated. If anyone would like to help out on the day, or would like to volunteer to help out with the club in general, please get in touch.
For the Under 13’s, who are scheduled to play on the Sunday at Sheriff Hutton Bridge, they can register at Friday night training, and they will be included in a team when they return.
Race Day Collection
This year, we will be collecting at the SkyBet Meeting, scheduled for Saturday 25th July. We plan, like last year to have two collection teams. The first collection team is to meet at the pavilion at 16:45. The last race is scheduled to start at 17:15. We would hope the first collection team to be back at the pavilion by 18:30. The second collection team would meet at the pavilion at 18:15 and return there at 19:45.
As we saw last year, with music on at the Racecourse for some time into the evening, donations were still being made up until 19:30. It would be much appreciated if we could have as many people on hand for the later collection as we would for the earlier one. You can also participate in both collections if you wish. Last year we raised just over £3100, so we are hoping to better that this year.
We would like as many young club members as possible to participate; especially as the race-goers do give more generously to young players dressed in their cricket whites. Young players must be accompanied by an adult. Whichever junior player collects the most money, will receive a Cricketing related prize.
These two events are our primary fundraisers for the year, and it is hoped that all club members will support them. The money in previous years has been used for club improvements and updating ground machinery and it is hoped it will be as successful as previous years.
If you have any questions, please get in touch!
Hope to see you all at both events!
