The opening week of the York Vale League season sees all three Senior sides in action on Saturday. All matches are scheduled for a 1:30pm start. The Foss Evening League season, doesn’t begin until next week. Two of our junior teams, the Under 15’s (Monday) and the Under 13’s (Sunday) start their 2015 seasons within the next week.

  • 1st team: Melbourne (H)
  • 2nd team: Stillingfleet (A)
  • 3rd team: Thorpe Willoughby (H, at Millthorpe School)
  • Under 15’s: Malton & Old Malton (A)
  • Under 13’s: Dunnington (H)

All three senior Ovington teams will be hoping for a good start to their seasons, although there is still the possibility of the weather playing a hand in proceedings given the mixed forecasts.

The first team take on newly promoted Melbourne, who are fresh from their Second Division title last season. They only lost one league game in 2014 and it is to be expected that they’ll be towards the top end of Division One this season. The first team, who were runners-up in the top division last year, will be hoping to get off to a good start against potentially a team vying for the title.

Also newly promoted are our second team, who make their first foray into Division 2 with a tough fixture away at Stillingfleet. Their opponents were 3rd in the league last year, albeit a long way behind eventual runners-up Ben Johnson. Stillingfleet ended their season in rather disappointing fashion, not being able to record a league victory from Mid-July til the season end, although they did have less luck with the weather than some of their league rivals. It will prove an interesting barometer to how competitive the Ovington second team can be in the division nonetheless.

The third team face Thorpe Willoughby II and will be hopeful of a victory, especially considering that they did the double over their opposition in the 2014 season. Thorpe Willoughby were more competitive towards the end of their last campaign though and it is to be expected that they may have recruited more players over the winter, with a new cricket net grand-opening at their club sure to have created interest in their local area. Last seasons opening day fixture saw Steve Puckering take 5-8 to skittle Thorpe Willoughby for just 31, so the thirds will be hoping for more of the same this time around.

The Under 15’s open their season away at Malton & Old Malton on Monday evening. One of the more distant away trips the side have to face this season.  The Under 13’s begin their season at home on Sunday morning, where they face Dunnington, who are traditionally one of the stronger sides in the age-group.

Senior nets take place on Friday evening, on the Little Knavesmire from 18:30 – 20:00. Full details of our training sessions for all ages can be found on our Get Involved page.
